Trapped by desire

Trapped by desire

10″ x 5″  Trapped by desire is an assemblage in my bird series. Assemblage is a form of art where found and created objects are upcycled and brought together to create something new – kind of like life.

The pieces here are simple. A glass votive form, wire, a metal hummingbird, wooden base, silver base, silvertoned grating and a few odds and ends. Brought together by my twisted mind.

Fancy That!

Fancy That!

9  1/2″  x  4 1/2″   Fancy That! is an assemblage sculpture in my tea pot series. This little copper teapot caught my eye at my favorite antique mall, but the sweet little tea cup was found at a thrift store. I love the pretty salmon color inside the cup and the vibrant blue outside. I could imagine drinking a spot of hot tea from this vessel, pinky held high. Together the piece brings to mind an afternoon tea picnic, under a tree with a sweetly scented breeze blowing.

Fancy That!

Assemblage art is enjoyable to me in that it allows me to bring together found objects to re-create something new and unigue. If a piece opens the mind to a feeling or pleasurable reaction, then it is sucessful. Here, a little bit of fancy might bring a smile to someone.

Tea Cones

Tea Cones

11″  x  5″  Tea Cones is an assemblage in my tea pot series. I love the lines of the piece from the ball on the tiptop to the conical cup, which is actually an antique disposable paper cone cup holder. The piece in between was a candle holder but serves as a liaison between pot and cup.

Triple Tea Drop

Triple Tea Drop

13″ x  17″  Triple Tea Drop is an assemblage in my teapot series. This hanging sculpture is my favorite whimsicle tea time piece. The triplet teacups came from Goodwill and the antique yellow tin teapot from my favorite antique mall. The “tea” is made of beads and chain, pouring freely with enough to spare.

Dark Brew

Dark Brew

8″  x  8″   Dark Brew is an assemblage in my teapot series of sculptures. Using found objects and combining them into something new, this altered art takes recycling to a new level. Upcycling old pieces found at thrift stores, I create objects that will illicit a smile or thought.

Dark Brew is created from an old candleholder, small teapot and china teacup. The tea is created from beads and wire.

Sweet Copper Tea

Sweet Copper Tea

8″ x 16″  Sweet Copper Tea is an assemblage sculpture. This sweet copper teapot found me in an antique store. The spot-of-tea cup and saucer followed suit in the same store. They belonged together, as I show here. The base is an old candlestick. The pouring tea is made of several kinds of old necklace chain.
