I can often be seen taking photos in our little city of Roanoke. We have an abundance, well maybe not that many, of turn of the century (the 1900s) storefronts. I adore the architecture and the history of them. My photos reflect this stability, this firm testament to time. Now and then, I like to capture the moments of life though, the instant of movement, an essence of soul. Please don’t steal the image, but if you do, refer back to me. Thanks.

This particular photo, Flight, is one of those moments. Taken with a Canon EOS Rebel  T3 digital camera, the image has not been altered except a cropping. I offer it as my Day 3 post for Art Every Day Month, which was actually yesterday. I’ll be caught up later today with another post regarding a certain angel I’ve been working  on.  By Heather Brush.

Like so many many many others, I start my days with coffee. So when a chance came up to tap into this zombie, er, addicted, um, resourceful group of consumers, by hanging my art in a coffee shop, I downed an espresso and bolted for it. I’m hopeful that java sippers will look up from their laptops, books, and pastries to gaze at the stuff on the walls.

Fancy That!

Fancy That!

9  1/2″  x  4 1/2″   Fancy That! is an assemblage sculpture in my tea pot series. This little copper teapot caught my eye at my favorite antique mall, but the sweet little tea cup was found at a thrift store. I love the pretty salmon color inside the cup and the vibrant blue outside. I could imagine drinking a spot of hot tea from this vessel, pinky held high. Together the piece brings to mind an afternoon tea picnic, under a tree with a sweetly scented breeze blowing.

Fancy That!

Assemblage art is enjoyable to me in that it allows me to bring together found objects to re-create something new and unigue. If a piece opens the mind to a feeling or pleasurable reaction, then it is sucessful. Here, a little bit of fancy might bring a smile to someone.

Refined

9 1/2″  x  4 1/2″    Refined is an assemblage sculpture in my tea pot series. The pieces were found at local thrift stores and my favorite antique mall, pulling themselves together in my mind. The “tea” is made of beads, chain and wire. Refined evokes a feel of precise and purposeful tea sipping, to me. Delicate yet strong.
