Healing Angel

IMG_8081 Healing Angel is an altered book piece. She is roughly a foot tall and rotates on her stand. Created from an antique home medical reference book, her feathered wings are aged pages of obscurity.  Created by Heather Brush  IMG_8074IMG_8076 IMG_8079 IMG_8083

Meow Moon is 8″ x 10″ and is also a mixed media piece on canvas, ready to hang. The same process was used as in the owls except for the addition of the cat, a found object that I modified and painted.

Hoots Out There

Hoots Out There

SOLD!  A series of mixed media canvases for Halloween. 8″ x 10″, 4″ x 12″, and 5″ x 5″. I found the owl trivets at my local Goodwill and had to bring them home. My grandma had these in her kitchen; she loved owls, and seeing them brought back memories of sitting at her table while she drank coffee, hot pot on an owl trivet.

These are canvas pieces, ready to hang. Underlayers are covered with dress pattern paper, which also helped mold the trees. Top layers add to the depth of the sky.

For sale, by Heather Brush.

Show at the Co-op

The Natural Foods Co-op in Roanoke, VA is one of my favorite places, so it was with great pleasure that I hung my art work there today, August 20 through September 24, 2012. The works I chose to show there are natural in theme; my tree series of assemblages.  Since assemblage art is an upcycling of found objects and materials, my work feels right at home here. Stop by and check it out in both areas of the cafe.

Be sure to take a reusable shopping bag and purchase some organic veggies, vegetarian yummies from the cafe, whole grain breads, local cheeses, free range eggs, and fresh ground peanut butter!

My art is for sale too, no bag necessary. Much thanks to Katherine Devine for the opportunity.

Azure Obscured

Azure Obscured

4″ x 8″  Azure Obscured is a mixed media canvas I did in experimentation of color and texture. I was inspired by the fall blue sky and a song Regina Spektor sings about the color blue. This piece uses acrylic, modge podge, pattern and tissue papers, oil pastel, chalk and pencil.

Little Goldie Goldfish

Little Goldie Goldfish

9″ x 12″ Little Goldie Goldfish is a mixed media canvas that was a labor of love. I’m 42 years old and this piece is about a song I learned when I was about 4 years old. I still know all the words and if you ask me nicely I will sing it for you.

Little Goldie Goldfish

I recycled a box canvas for this piece…an old project that never came to completion. So it began with some layers of paper and gesso, to which I added layers of acrylic, modge podge, pattern paper, and oil pastel. The fish was a found item, made of plaster, and repainted.
