Hail to the King

Hail to the King

7 1/2″  x 17 1/2″   Hail to the King is an assemblage piece in a series I find myself creating that utilize old books. Cover art  is often too interesting to hide with a book stored on a bookshelf. Here is a an older child’s version of King Arthur’s story. The book is framed using a wooden drawer from an art case. It is lined with a rubbing of a knight in armor.

Hail to the King

Rising from the pages of the book is a child’s toy sword, painted suitably for a king. Who doesn’t associate the pulling of the sword with Arthur?

Hail to the King

The thrown awaits his majesty but it sits empty, while the king, as depicted in the figure at the top of the piece, travels with his knights to battle. This piece can sit on a shelf, or hang on a wall.
