Inside, we find the other side of father. The tools of leisure: the pipe, the cigarettes, the tobacco and lighter. The cards and dice. The drink. The pin-up girls and the evidence of lust. All hidden away from the world. But in this instance, the Pandora’s box is left wide open.

SOLD 7″ x 9″ x 5″ Home Remedy is an assemblage piece. Assemblage is the art of gathering and presenting found objects in a thematic or simply pleasing format. This piece represents home remedies. The china head is something I found in a dump some 25 years ago. Here it represents the sick child, or a child forced to take a home tonic. His body and the two bottles in the front are antique medicine bottles from an old pharmacy in Patchogue, NY. The papers covering the outside of the box are over 100 years old, from a druggist company, Ayers, that made remedy concoctions. The cover of the booklet is on the back of the piece. The inside papers are from a home care booklet published in 1955 on taking care of baby. The top item is an antique pestle.

9″ x 12″ Little Bird is a mixed media work: ink over newspaper collage over acrylic over newspaper on canvas. A Little Bird Told Me.
The text on vellum reads: “The Ability of the Northern Mockingbird to imitate sounds is truly impreessive: some individuals can incorporate over 100 different phrases of as many different birds in their songs. Phrases are usually repeated, often quite a few times, and somewhat modified at each repetition. This species, once thought to be headed for extinction…”
The text below it reads: “A newspaper is a window through which men look out on all that is going on in the world. Without a newspaper a man is shut up in a small room, and knows little or nothing of what is happening outside of himself. In our day newspapers keep pace with history and record it. A good newspaper will keep a sensible man in sympathy with the world’s current history. It is an ever-unfolding encyclopedia; an unbound book forever issuing, and never finished. 1870”
